This question came to me via Facebook:

I just saw your TED talk and loved it, but I’m just not sure work-life balance can be achieved. What are your thoughts?

Gee, thanks!!

I agree regarding work-life balance! In fact, work-life balance s the wrong paradigm and has actually been detrimental, in my opinion. We need to see work as part of life – as part of a greater whole. We also need appropriate boundaries between work and life – and we need control in setting them.

The best ‘dynamic equilibrium’ between work and life is the one we determine is best for each of us *uniquely* and the best employers realize this and provide plenty of choice, control, and flexibility and trust people to do their best.

We will be most effective when we have fulfillment at home *and* at work – and it shouldn’t be an either/or or a trade off. We get to have both. As humans we want to contribute in all aspects of our lives and work is a part of a full life.
